Modern Medicine – Paracelsus 1493-1541
Paracelsus, born Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, was one of the first scientists to theorize that disease and illness were caused by something outside of the body attacking it, rather than an imbalance of the four humors (Blood, Yellow bile, Black bile and Phlegm.) originating from within the body. His work was so revolutionary that he was called “the Luther of Medicine.”
At least some of his wisdom can still be applied today, as he postulated: “A little bit of beer is divine medicine.”
